Lincolnshire County Council is inviting residents to share their views on its Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs) — the 11 sites across the county where you can take larger items or materials that can’t go in your bins at home.
Here in Grantham, the HWRC (the tip in layman’s terms) is incredibly well used and seemingly always busy!
A vital part of local recycling
These sites handle a considerable amount of waste each year. In 2024–25 so far, Lincolnshire’s HWRCs have managed over 70,000 tonnes of waste, with an average recycling rate of around 74% — far higher than the county’s overall household recycling rate of about 40%.
To give a sense of scale:
- Lincoln (Great Northern Terrace) processed about 9,700 tonnes last year.
- Spalding handled roughly 7,800 tonnes, and Louth nearly 7,000 tonnes.
- Together, the county’s 11 sites serve around 750,000 residents, meaning each site serves about 68,000 residents.
That’s a large footprint for a mainly rural county, and it shows how necessary these facilities are in keeping Lincolnshire clean and sustainable.
