ROADWORKS WARNING: Springfield Rd / Harlaxton Road Grantham

Grantham: Project to Construct Electric Vehicle Charging Facility

Major works are set to begin 24th May 2025 to install approximately 1.5km of new high-voltage electricity cables to facilitate a new Electric Vehicle Charging Facility. The works will run from the existing National Grid Electricity Distribution (NGED) substation on Springfield Road to the site, west of the junction of Trent Road and Harlaxton Road.
eSmart Networks, the independent connection provider, is completing this work to provide power to the new facility on behalf of bp pulse. These works support the UK’s Zero Emission Vehicle (ZEV) mandate by expanding local electric vehicle charging infrastructure.

Wider Community Benefits
This extension of the high-voltage network will provide the power needed for new EV charging facilities, which will support both the local community and the wider area. The upgraded infrastructure will also support future electrification projects in the region.
This programme forms part of the infrastructure needed to support the UK’s transition to Zero Emission Vehicles under current legislation.

Electricity stays ON
eSmart Networks and NGED teams will ensure there is no disruption to electricity supplies throughout the duration of the project.

When does it start, and how long will it take?
Work is expected to start on 24th May 2025, with completion targeted around 14th August 2025.

Temporary traffic arrangements for the duration of the work
To carry out the works safely, temporary traffic management will be in place. As teams will be working in the footpaths and one lane of the two-lane carriageway, single-file traffic will be required. Temporary traffic lights will be installed along the route and will be repositioned as the works progress, to minimise disruption.

To further assist traffic flow, the signals will be manually controlled throughout the day. To expedite the work and reduce the overall duration, weekend working will be undertaken where necessary. Additionally, works incorporating critical junctions will be scheduled during off-peak hours to further minimise the impact on road users.

We advise road users to allow extra time for their journeys, particularly during peak hours, or to consider
alternative routes where possible.
