A Thank You and A Look Forward: Grantham’s Highway Improvements Plan for 2024

A heartfelt thanks to all who attended our recent community engagement event Wednesday evening. Your presence, insights, and discussions were encouraging and instrumental in reinforcing our shared commitment to improving Grantham’s road network and public spaces.

This year, Grantham’s journey towards enhanced mobility, safety, and quality of life takes a significant step. We are embarking on an ambitious series of highway improvements, with over £8 million allocated to transform our town’s Market Place and road infrastructure. This initiative is a direct response to the concerns and suggestions from you, our residents, who have played a crucial role in shaping this plan and highlighted the need for a more efficient and safer road network.

The spring and summer of 2024 will witness the reconstruction of key sections, including High Street, Great Gonerby, Gonerby Road, Dysart Road, and Alma Park Road. These efforts aim to improve road surfacing for safer and smoother journeys and enhance the overall quality of life for Grantham’s residents.

Furthermore, the construction of three new pedestrian crossings underscores our commitment to promoting safer and more accessible pedestrian movements. These crossings at High Street, Great Gonerby, Greenhill Road / Barrowby Road, and Barrowby Road / Poplar Farm facilitate safer navigation for pedestrians and cyclists alike.

In addition to these specific projects, South Kesteven District Council (SKDC) is leading significant works to rejuvenate the Market Place and improve the junction at Station Road and A52/A607. These changes, together with the ongoing efforts on the Grantham Southern Relief Road, including the construction of a new bridge over the River Witham and East Coast Main Line, represent a comprehensive investment into the future of our town.

It is indisputable that such extensive work will cause some disruption. However, please be assured that every effort is being made to minimize inconvenience. Our planning processes are focused on efficiency and the least disruptive traffic management measures, always prioritising the safety of our residents and the teams on the ground.

Your continued engagement and feedback are invaluable as we move forward. We encourage everyone to share their ideas and comments with their local county councillor. Your input is crucial as we strive to enhance our program of future works to meet our community’s evolving needs.

Together, we are setting the stage for a safer, more connected Grantham. Again, Thank you for your support, engagement, and patience as we work towards a brighter future for our town.
