Following local concerns about speeding and HGV traffic on Barrowby Gate I arranged for a 7 day automated survey to be conducted to see if there was a real problem rather than a perceived problem.

Surveys like this follow the national 85% percentile reading which is classed as: “The speed at or below which 85% of all vehicles are observed to travel under free-flowing conditions past a nominated point.”

The results were as follows:

  • 34mph southbound, towards Dysart Road from Muddle roundabout
  • 33.6mph northbound towards Muddle roundabout from Dysart Road
  • Average of 8722 vehicle movements per day, in both directions
  • Average 45 HGVs per day

This suggests that the speed limit is appropriate and most vehicles are sticking to it, however I have asked Lincolnshire Police to continue to monitor the situation and keep up with their regular speed checks.
